“Has to be our record of the year”- BBC Introducing
Growing up listening to the classic vinyl records acquired from the local pub juke box, EJ Mann has been influenced by music from an early age. It’s no surprise he followed in his father’s footsteps and found the guitar an irresistible temptation. “I used to listen to him bashing around on a beat-up old guitar – he only knew three chords, but it blew my mind how cool it was”
Starting a band with school mates and learning his craft over nearly a decade of playing hundreds of shows and festivals, he cut his teeth on the “toilet tour” gigs up and down the UK, drawing on influences such as Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene and the indie guitar movement of the 90’s. The setlist cover songs soon gave way to self-penned indie influenced originals and the shows became a pretty big deal with headlining slots and great support appearances alongside The Who, The Super Furry Animals and The Flaming Lips.
EJ Mann delivers catchy indie rock and roll songs with a sound that hints at classic Britpop, but brings it bang up to date. His songs are punctuated with rasping vocals, driving bass lines and insanely catchy hooks throughout. His explosive tracks describe how he sees the world around him – rooted in honest encounters and drawing on real life experiences whilst always being proud to call himself a fully independent musician.
